SPRINKLER FITTERS
Work Description
Sprinkler Fitters are pipe fitter specialists who have been trained in the installation of fire protection systems. The work includes the installation of underground supply piping, hydrants and fire pumps, which is connected to an integrated overhead piping system for suppression of fire. Installation of a system includes cutting and threading of pipe and assembling valves, pumps and other related equipment.
Working Conditions
To perform the job successfully the individual must be capable of handling material in excess of 100 pounds and working with tools off scaffolds, ladders and mobile platforms at heights sometimes in excess of 100 feet. May work in confined spaces and in trenches eight feet or more below ground level and many times in adverse weather conditions.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Be at least 18 years of age (proof of age required)
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Physically capable of performing the trade
- Have a copy of your military discharge form DD-214, if applicable
- A drug test and physical are required and paid for by the employer

- Interview with contractor
Terms of Apprenticeship
- 5 year program
- 10,000 hours on-the-job training
- First 6 months probationary
- Related training correspondence courses from Penn State University
- 5% pay increases every six months if current with related courses
- Approximately 200 hours of additional class work on Saturday’s (non-paid)
- State Journeymen’s test upon completion of apprenticeship
